15th August is celebrated as India’s Independence Day. This was the day in the year 1947 when India got independence from British rule.
However, freedom didn’t come to us easily. It came as an outcome of sacrifice made by freedom fighters, some of whom we know and revere but many remain unknown till date. To commemorate this occasion, our Karan Mehra and Nisha Rawal along with their acting institute RIRO (Reel In, Real Out) had arranged for a live performance by its students at Oberoi Mall (Goregaon) from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The show was named ‘Zara Yaad Karo Kurbaani’.
Talking on it Karan and Nisha say, “We would like to ask everyone that even after 63 years of freedom do you think that we are free? We think it’s a rhetorical question. We in our acting institute took this opportunity to show people a glimpse of the way we got freedom and how we should preserve it”.
Initially the public roaming around the mall had come just to have a glance of Karan, who essays a very celebrated role of Naitik in a daily soap. But as the performance started they got involved in the act. It showcased struggles of great personalities right from Rani Laxmi Bai to Gandhiji and their sacrifice which paved way for India’s freedom. The whole show was woven with a blend of song and performances.
As the performance started, Naitik took a back seat in everyone’s heart and the actual Indian woke up. The whole Mall assembled to salute our motherland. At the end of the show they sang national anthem together.
