Without a shred of doubt, launch of singing reality shows has given our country a fresh wave of talent, its got recognition and visibility to those talented singers who otherwise couldn’t get a forum where they could get their voice heard. This success and visibility has got people from all corners of the country to apply for a chance to sing at national stage.

However, of late, applications have also started pouring from across the border i.e. Pakistan. This has sparked a controversy (which the TV channels are milking to the core) and a debate regarding whether singing talent shows should be restricted to Indian Nationals. Should talent be bounded nationality, more so when people from across the border speak the same language and share the same culture?

The most controversial incident related to this issue was when singer and judge Abhijeet Bhattacharya on reality show called Star Voice of India voiced his opinion against artists from Pakistan being allowed to sing in India and specifically vented his angst against contestants who sang songs sung by ‘Atif Aslam’. Watch youtube video below of Abhijeet indirectly berating Atif Aslam on Ek Se Badhkar Ek Show.

Abhijeet is not alone, another judge Aadesh Srivastava has also expressed his anger at singers trying to sing popular songs sung by Atif Aslam, watch video below where Aadesh indirectly targets Atif Aslam, calling his songs enhanced through technology and made popular through sheer marketing.

What’s suprising is that the only people charging at Atif are those who are at the sagging end of their career (not sure whether Aadesh Srivastave had any) and are feeling threatened, what they should understand is that the masses have accepted Atif and his voice.

But the bigger question still remains open. Should the Indian reality shows be opened for contestants from other nationalities? Vote below and let your comments and opinions be heard by the organizers of these shows.
