Before we start discussing the above topic, one simple question: Why would you want to have politician on a reality show? Don’t you know that politicians will play politics wherever they go and create issue? Precisely that’s what happened on the streets of Mumbai today. Supporters of Republic Party of India (RPI) staged protests and went violent on the streets of Mumbai because their party leader Ramdas Athavale was not included in the part of Bigg Boss team. The supporters attacked the office building of Colors channel breaking the window panes and shouting anti-slogans against the channel. The Bigg Boss show, however, features another politician, Sanjay Nirupam, MP and all kind of politics is now played because of Sanjay’s inclusion and Ramdas exclusion.

Speaking on a news channel, Ramdas said that the channel approached him and explained him the show format. Ramdas agreed and was ready for the show before he received the intimation that he is no more a part of the show. Ramdas continued saying he is the Big Boss of his Party & Big Boss of his society and wanted to be the Big Boss of the television as well. And he questioned the channel was it the fact that he was Dalit and from a backward class they left him out? Ramdas wanted to politicize the whole issue by bringing Dalit and Backward issue into the whole episode. Interestingly the channel new-reader said “..we have no quota on TV…”

Whatever the case, this protests and controversies have done two jobs:

1. Republic Party of India came into limelight (we never heard of this party before, probably because there are 1000s of such parties in India) and Ramdas featured in the television (and on our blog as well)

2. Bigg Boss got more publicity even if that means some protests of window panes.

But still pondering why a politician on a reality show? Can anyone answer?
