Ekta Kapoor’s Kyuki Saas bhi kabhi bahu thi is making history by running continuously for 8 years now. The serial revolves around a Gujarati joint family and how the family deals with many various situations in life. I was not aware when did the soap started airing, however with its popularity, I was soon attracted towards the show and 10:30 PM Monday to Thursday of mine was booked for the show. We thought that Ekta has created a magic by making Kyunki the household requirement more than anything else. People started identifying themselves with Mihir & Tulsi, played by brilliant Actors Ronit Roy (there were too many people who played this role, but he was the one who played for the most time) and Smriti Irani, whose dialogues, portrayal and charismatic look soon made them the favorites amongst all the viewers. Tulsi soon become the favorite BAHU of India. The magic days of Indian Television was back, it created the same audience we had from the days of Mahabharat and Ramayan.

We were in all praise for Ekta for revolutionizing the Indian Television. Soon many Saas Bahu Serials emerged from many other production houses, some did well, some didn’t, however none reach to the heights of Kyunki. But, all good things should come to a very graceful end and that’s where Ekta wanted to go differently. She continued dragging the story, which was becoming slightly monotonous. Slowly events and situations were going outside the reality. Whenever the creative team wanted they proclaimed someone dead and after few episodes later the same characters were brought to life. Too much infidelity, conspirators and hatred was shown in the episodes, which left audience ponder: ‘Is that what a normal Indian family can have?’ Audience could feel the creative team’s loss of ideas, plots and situations. In order to make up for those and complete the timings, festival events were arranged and shown on the episodes, which had grand sets, songs from latest Bollywood Flicks, grand parties but no substance. Small incidents were projected big with cameras zooming in and out 10 times, too many visual and sound effects to create impact, which wasnt there. All these lead to further deterioration in the quality of the serials, which by this time already lose its loyal audience comprising of middle-aged and older-aged people. Younger age already abandoned these serials claiming Ekta as fake.

We have great writers here at our end, do you want some scripts to look at. One of our script is called “Kall Kentre ki Zindagi..” sorry that’s Call center ki Zindagi, but given Ekta love for the letter “K”, we modified the name. This script deals with how a common man’s life changes when his son and daughter gets a job in a call center and then how their life goes up and down – from racial abuses from the callers at work, to odd timings, to fat pay package to health issues to exploitation and sexual favors at workplace.. What else do you need?

Anyways, hope she reads our article and gets some ideas from us. Visitors, pump in your ideas as well, probably we can have a store-house of good scripts here and get some good soaps done.
