Ekta Kapoor is the creative director of publicly listed Balaji Telefilms, responsible for churning out mind-boggling number of serials (25+, I guess), most of her serials revolve around the central theme of typical Indian household with the plots based on clashes, controversies, sleaze, affairs, rebirths and friction. Since producing her first blockbuster television program at 19, Ekta Kapoor has revamped TV entertainment for television masses. Ekta Kapoor’s found the pulse of the Indian television audience and knows how to play around with it. Incidentally, all her serials start with the letter ‘K’ because of some numerology hocus-pocus that she believes in, its worked in her case, so she carries on with it ruthlessly. Apart from producing television potboilers, Ekta Kapoor has moved onto to producing reality dance shows (the IN thing these days), producing bollywood movies (doing her bit for the family – read Tusshar kapoor) and instituting her own Balaji Global Television Awards to add to the already screaming number of awards in the market.

Ekta Kapoor is a shrewd businesswoman and knows her well-oiled position in the television industry, she wields a lot of clout amongst all the stakeholders of the television industry, be it the television channels, those in front of the camera or those behind it. If industry sources are to be believed she can make or break the career of an aspiring/established actor on the small screen, it’s no doubt that the actors don’t get tired off showering praise on her whenever they get the media space to do so (read award functions). Ekta Kapoor is the big daddy of television and can be compared to the stature that Yash Raj enjoys on the big screen.
