India’s ace pugilist Vijender assured another medal for by defeating Ecuador’s Carlos Gongora 9-4 and has cruised into semis-finals of Boxing middleweight 75kg category. This is the first time India has managed to reach thus far in the boxing event in the Olympics. Vijender started powerfully by leading 2-0 in the first round and maintaining the lead in the second by 2-1. Vijender maintained his dominance and after the third round he took 2-0 lead whereas Carlos tried to come back into the competition with one point but was soon weakened by the aggressive Indian and led the round with 3-1. In the fourth round, Carlos fought back, but Vijender’s punches were enough to win the title by 9-4, which is a major achievement.

After Akhil Kumar and Jitender Kumar’s defeat, Vijender kumar was the only hope and he did not let it down. This is the glorious moment in Indian Olympics History and we should welcome all our heroes in grand manner. They should feel special so that they get encouraged to perform even better in 2010 Commonwealth Games and 2012 London Olympics.

We wish Vijender best of luck for the Semis and hope he strikes the GOLD!
