Jitender Kumar storms in last 16 of the fly-weight boxing championship at Beijing Olympics by defeating the Turkish opponent Ulas Furkan Memis. Jitender was aggressive from the round 1 and it took less than three rounds to defeat his opponent. It is Jitender maiden Olympic trip and he is the second boxer after Akhil kumar, his cousin, to storm into the quarter final of boxing event. Akhil Kumar defeated the world champion Sergey Vodopyanov of Russia on Friday.
Jitender now meets three-time European champion Russian Georgy Balakshin in the quarter-finals on August 20. Incidentally he has lost to Balakshin in earlier encounter by just one point. Addressing after wining his pre-quarter final match he said, he will more prepared than he was in his last meeting with Balakshin in 2007 and he will definitely come out winner. He added that he will take tips from his cousin Akhil Kumar, who has been performing well and who is incidentally his mentor as well.
