Indian Khel Ratna badminton player Saina Nehwal won the bronze medal in badminton singles at the London Olympics 2012 after she was declared winner in the play-off match as her Chinese opponent Wang Xin retired hurt.

But the victory was relegated to the inside pages as Nehwal stole the limelight on becoming only the second Indian woman after weightlifter Karnam Malleswari to win an Olympic medal.
