Mahendra Singh Dhoni (MS Dhoni) will be conferred with Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, the highest sporting honor in India for the year 2007. Dhoni, captain of the Indian One-day and Twenty20 team, is only the second cricketer to be selected for the award after Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar received the award for 1997, eight years after he started playing for the country at the highest level. Interestingly, Dhoni got this award within 3 years of his international cricketing career.
Dhoni brought a big change in Indian cricket by introducing many new players to the squad and broke the age old Senior Dominating Team. And that worked. How many of us ever thought of India’s chance at T20 World Championship in 2007, especially after that defeat at the World Cup 2007? His motivation, innovation has given a good face-lift to the Indian cricket team and has helped build a strong team. Seniors are required as they bring in lots of experience but the team should observe and give chance to new players. Australians did that long back and that’s why they remained champions for long.
So, good work Dhoni. Good work by the committee to bestow this award and motivate Dhoni and his team. Keep the goood work up!
Sridevi, is that your real name? But i agree to what you said. And we even did not qualify for Olympics Hockey event. Good! Wished we had cricket there… Haha
Why is India giving so much importance to Cricket I dont understand. Our national game is HOCKEY guys…
I do understand that it was indeed good that India won 20 -20, but I guess if Hockey or any other sport for that matter was given the same importance and money, we would have been champions in that too..
Think about this!!!
