MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma safely steered India to a six-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the first One-Day International in Colombo. India lead the five-match series 1-0.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni (61) slammed his 26th ODI fifty and with some ferocious hitting which didn’t make feel the absence of Virender Sehwag in the team.
At the start of the game, Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and opted to bowl first in the opening one-dayer of the five-match cricket series against Sri Lanka in Dambulla on Wednesday.
India would be without regular opener Virender Sehwag, who has been ruled out due to an injury picked up while training. Rohit Sharma has been inducted into the playing XI to replace Sehwag.
Earlier, veteran Sanath Jayasuriya slammed his 28th ODI ton and propel Sri Lanka to 246/7 in 50 overs but his brilliant Knock of 107 went in vain as Indian cruised to victory with 3 Overs Left. Jayasuriya also became the second cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar to complete 13,000 runs in ODIs.
The Indian bowlers did a good job by restricting the hosts to a moderate total on a sluggish pitch, Ishant Sharma particularly bowled well with his Consistent performance restricted the hosts to a moderate total in the extreme hot conditions.
