India beat Sri Lanka in the 4th ODI in the Wealthsurance Series to register their 9th straight wins in the One Day International Matches, the best by the Indian Team so far. They just need one more win to be in the top rankings in the world. India had put a massive 332/5 and in return SriLanka could manage only 265, falling short of 47 runs.
Frustrated over poor performance by the Sri Lankan Team, the crowd over R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo showed their anger on the Indian Team fielding in the deep (during 20th over) by throwing stones on them. Sri Lanka were 108/2 before MS Dhoni opted to walk of the field, when crowd threw stones on Indian Players for the third time.
The game, however, resumed after Third Umpire M G Silva and Match Refree intervened.
Earlier India won the toss and elected to bat. Star of 3rd ODI, Virendra Sehwag could not continue his hard hiting and fell at 5 runs only when the Indian Score was 14. It was then Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni, who steered the Indian Innings and took the score to 202. Gautam finished his century and a half (150), before falling to Murali, surpassed Wasim Akram’s 502 and became the highest wicket taker in the ODI.
Dhoni fell short of his century by 6 runs and was caught by Fernando off the bowling of Jayasuriya. Suresh Raina quick fire of 49* of 37 balls helped India to pill huge score of 332/5.
Sri Lanka’s started their chase in positive note and scored 50 runs in less than 7 overs. But Jayasuriya luck went dry when Pathan had him caught by Rohit Sharma. Sanath scored 27 and the team score was 55/1 at 7.2 overs.
After that it was constant wickets falling and Sri Lanka never seemed comfortable chasing the score. Finally, all fell for 265, falling short by 67 runs.
Man of the Match – Gautam Gambhir for his brillant 150.
Final Score:
India 333/5, (Gautam Gambhir 150, Dhoni 94)
