Beijing Olympics 2008, just 3 more days to go and people are already speculating medal winners and show stoppers. One of the much awaited event will be 100 meter sprint for men, the winner of which gets Fastest Man on the Earth title. Amongst the contestant, Usain Bolt from Jamaica with personal best of 9.72 seconds, Asafa Powell from Jamaica, with personal best of 9.74 seconds and Tyson Gay from USA, with personal best of 9.77 are the hot favorites. The event is scheduled on 16th August 2008 at 2230 hrs (GMT+8).
One of the other event I would like to look at is the Lawn Tennis Finals and I predict it will be as exciting as the Wimbledon Final Marathon. World No. 1 Roger Federer will be all set to avenge his defeat, while following close second Rafeal Nadal, who would like to retain his winning tempo. In the ATP 2008 race, Nadal is at # 1 position with over 1100 points, while Roger is at # 3 with 700 points. Others to look out will be Andy Murray from South Africa (World number 6), who won the Cincinnati Series defeating World No. 3 Novak Djokovic of Serbia.
Absence of Maria Sharapova (due to injury) might make William sisters job easier, but will have tough from Ana Ivanovic & Jelena Jankovic both from Serbia (not sure if they are playing). I would like to see Serbs getting away than the William Sisters!
From India’s point of view, Sania Mirza, not quite doing well, slipped few more rankings and now ranks World No. 60, her lowest in past one year or so. I am sure she will do well to give tough fight. However, will be good to see how Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi flairs in Men’s Double, which starts from 10th August 2008. Dinesh Kumar contending for Light Heavyweight Boxer (81 kgs) will be one of the top contender for India’s medal quest in the boxing event. Shooters Rajyavardhan Rathore, silver medalist from last Olympics and Manavjit Singh are also the favorites.
Wishing all the best to the Indian Team. Hope we will see some good results this time.
