The Congress has sacked senior party leader Margaret Alva on charges of her allegations towards ticket sale in the Karnataka Assembly. Alva was a Congress Working Committee (CWC) member and Congress General Secretary.
Margaret Alva, whose allegations of wrong-doing in the distribution of party ticket in the Karnataka Assembly polls created a row, had resigned from her post. Alva had been sulking over denial of election ticket to her son Nivedith in Karnataka recently, and had alleged that “different yardsticks” were being adopted in deciding party nominations for upcoming elections in six states.
Alva was, however, snubbed by the AICC which rejected the charges of sale of ticket and ruled out any probe in the matter. The Congress High Command had also disapproved of her action of going to the media over the issue.
She had questioned why her son Nivedith and grand son of former Union minister C K Jaffer Sharief were not given nominations while relatives of two dozen leaders were given tickets in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir.
“Were my son and Jaffer Sharif’s grandson anti-national, terrorists or smugglers?” Alva had asked.
Having taken action against senior leader Margaret Alva, who had leveled the charge that party ticket was “sold” in Karnataka and also raised the issue of nepotism in the selection of candidates for the coming Assembly elections, the Congress leadership struck again.
NOW DID ALVA ACCUSATIONS WERE HONEST OR DUE TO DENIAL OF TICKET TO HIS SON?
Our Article will refer both side of a coin. Let’s start from the defensive Angle of Mrs. Alva.
It is the saddest day for the congress party that a very senior leader of congress having very rich heritage & base who coincidentally happens to be the General Secretary of Congress Party Margaret Alva was put in the most awkward position to tender her resignation from the General Secretary ship of the Congress Party against her charges against few high-ups of her party in distribution of tickets in Karnataka. She is one of the genius & very likable leader of the congress party known for her truthfulness & devotion towards her Congress Party. How unfortunate is that instead of precipitating action against all those who committed grave irregularities in distribution of tickets to congress party nominees in Karnataka, move was in reverse direction! If utterances of truth is a crime, let her be sacked otherwise don’t lead to destroy the party for self interest without any prejudice. Is it the same congress that was lead by stalwarts like Pandit Nehru, Dr.Rajendra Prasad, J.B.Kriplani, Sardar Patel, Abul Kalam Azad & others when one is restrained to come out with truth?
Congress has and will always be a Party of Sycophants. Its survival is based on Principles of ‘Sycophancy’.
There is no inner party democracy. There are people who dominate at the highest level with their pseudo intellect and there are people who are closer to common folks – but have no voice at the higher echelons.
From time immemorial, party tickets are up for sale. What is new?? Maybe Margaret Alva thought she will get ticket for her son at some concessional rate and got disappointed. No need for her to get offended. Let her make use of her connections and garner the required amount for getting tickets for her children. Equality is the essence of democracy. She has to pay the same bribe which others pay. This is Indian democracy.
What she declared about tickets is an open truth which everyone knows. Her eyes only opened because her son was denied a ticket. This shows the self centerpieces and greed of this woman. Margaret Alva has got a taste of her own medicine. She had followed the same criteria of which she is complaining now, to distribute tickets in Goa during the last elections. It is an open secret as to how most of the tickets were distributed by her in GOA, setting aside good candidates even from the Youth Congress. The clock has turned full circle & that the reason why she is complaining.
It is perfect democracy within Congress so long as somebody does not speak up and question the goings-on. Margaret Alva paid the price for bring honest and for speaking up against the wrongdoings. There was not one bit of appreciation for all the self less toil she put in for several decades in Delhi. This is a land of sheer opportunists.
Finally we expected workers on the national level of the ruling coalition should behave with more diplomacy. Even though the issue at hand of sale of seats is to be followed very thoroughly (which I sincerely doubt even though I lean towards congress) I think Ms Alva has shown her true colors if she has initiated discussions with other parties. The problems with Indian politicians are they ALWAYS think about either themselves or their party lines…the nation comes the last on their lists. Our country is doomed for failure because of these politicians who claim to be public servants but are nothing less than statesmen and women who don’t think twice before selling out on their principles, morality and conscience.
It is this autocratic ‘Know-All’ attitude that destroys political parties and the country.
Since her son was denied ticket thats why she is raising her voice against congress high command. This is a case of total murder of one’s morality & principle
