Renowned sitarist Nishat Khan debuted as a music director with the Bollywood film Yeh Saali Zindagi by Sudhir Mishra. However, he could not impress the music lovers with his composition as he did with his sitar.
Swanand Kirkire penned the lyrics of the songs, which have been sung by the renowned singers like Kunal Ganjawala, Shilpa Rao, Sukhwinder Singh, Sunidhi Chauhan, Abhishek Ray and Javed Ali.
The album of Yeh Saali Zindagi has total eight songs. Apart from two of them, the rest six tracks fail to impress.
Kunal Ganjawala, Sunidhi Chauhan and Shilpa Rao have crooned the title track, which is first song of the album. The base for the vocals is set by a long prelude. With a western feel, the song keeps changing pace from slow to fast to slow again. It is neither a bad nor a brilliant one. It has two more versions- a female and a male version.
Sunidhi and Shilpa have sung the part crooned by Kunal in the female version while Abhishek Ray has sung the male version, which has quite different composition from the original version. But nothing could take the song to that height.
Javed Ali has sung the next track ‘Sarara’, which does not give a contemporary feel at all. It comes with some desi beats but with no high points. Sukhwinder Singh has crooned the other version of this number.
Another disappointing number follows after this, which has been sung by Shilpa Rao and Javed. The ‘Dil dar-ba-dar’ number was initially focused to be the title song.
Finally, a relief comes with the number ‘Ishq tere jalwe’, which is a emotional love song by Javed and Shilpa. The song gets an edge with its rock influence.
Javed sings the concluding number ‘Kaise kahein alvida’, which is a beautiful rendition by the singer. A tranquillising effect is offered by the semi-classical touch and slow pace. This is one romantic number, which one can look forward to in this album.

I can’t agree more with Dipak..the songs of ye saali zindagi..esp dar-ba-dar and title songs are soothing and sarara sung by sukhwinder singh rocks!! and last but not the least all the songs in the movie fit like the part of movie and help in extending the movie..therefore the efforts of Nishat Khan is a success.
nice site
on the contrary – the music and tunes are extremely impressive.
the title number is extraordinary musical and melodious – “.
it is a very good fusion number – the lyrics of this particular number are no doubt delightfully insightful.
The problem with today’s so called critics is that they are at still raw and inexperienced both in terms of theory, structure and experience.
Perhaps not a single critic including the above have noted that both the movie and the title number is an art take off from the mathematical oriented “Chaos theory”
