“Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi”: Sweet and simple middle-age romance story

There is a buzz on internet that the movie “Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi” takes you to Mumbai’s Parsi community, where love blooms between two not-so-perfect people.

The story revolves of a 45 year old Parsi ‘boy’, Farhad (Boman Irani), who is single and very keen to mingle. Farhad lives with hi ‘very loving’ mother (Daisy Irani) and grandmother (actress Shammi, after ages!). Society and family pressure make Farhad visit several prospective brides’ homes only to be rejected from every family because of his profession. The honest and shy Farhad works as a salesman at a lingerie shop in Mumbai. One fine day, Shirin (Farah Khan) enters his shop and his life changes for ever. Farhad falls in love with the confident, bindaas, quirky 40-year-old Shirin, and it is true love for the two. But Farhad, who is a mumma’s boy, has to first convince his mother, who considers Shirin as her arch enemy – As per the reports.

The reports also says that the movie refreshes you with some good music. The film grips you in certain bits and parts. Especially, the scenes where a heart-broken Boman tries to convince Farah, in front of her ailing father, might touch your heart. The film’s plot is sweet and simple, but doesn’t offer something great, hence wouldn’t leave you saying ‘WOW.

Talking about the star cast Boman Irani’s performance is utterly believable. Size does matter. Of the heart that is. And in this quaint love story he’s all heart, honest and adorable.

Farah Khan’s debut is a sheer surprise; she ‘slips’ into this role beautifully. So what if she’s not size-zero, with an absolutely natural performance she makes a pretty figure. Daisy Irani and Shammi aunty (Farhad’s grandmom), team up to add feline family drama to Farhad’s boring life.

On the whole the movie Shirin Farhad Ki To Nikal Padi is warm-hearted and generally watchable without being exhilarating.
