The much awaited Bollywood movie ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani‘ that has the cutest love story has finally hit the theaters on 6th November. The movie stars Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif in the lead. The movie is directed by super talented Rajkumar Santoshi and looks like his magical days are back. The movie is receiving very good response at the box office. Both Ranbir and Katrina Kaif’s performance in the movie has been appreciated.
Showing consistent improvement from Saawariya to Wake Up Sid, it’s now pretty clear that Ranbir Kapoor will be the new teen sensation. In his latest offering Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, the actor effortlessly outshines everybody else in the frame. He is quite simply the most charismatic actor of his generation. When an actor makes you overlook the gaping flaws of a bad script and actually makes the loopholes work – you know he is a star.
And then there is Katrina Kaif. There is something about her infectious smile and attractive presence that lights up even the dullest of movies. Just watching her go through those several wardrobe changes and listening to her now-charming accented Hindi make you forget all about the torturous November heat. Take the cool pair away and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani is a clichéd romance straight out of the 90s. The hero is a broke, good-for-nothing but kindhearted small town boy (Ranbir Kapoor). It’s love at first sight for him when he encounters the gorgeous girl-next-door (Katrina Kaif). A few misunderstandings later the two become friends. But of course like most Hindi film heroines, the girl loves an NRI stud (Upen Patel, for God’s sake) who makes his entry at the interval point. NRI’s dad would obviously not approve of the girl from the valley. So our madly in love hero goes all out to unite the couple against all opposition. This leaves the already confused heroine in a greater dilemma about who she truly cares for. You can figure out the rest. Half-an-hour into the film, it takes no Einstein to unravel the plot.
Rajkumar Santoshi is back in form after a many years. Comedy has always been his main forte as his Andaz Apna Apna has achieved cult status in last 15 years. Here he has balanced both romance and comedy very well. His narrative keeps you hooked right from the word go. Santoshi has also picked up the right character actors which contribute immensely to the madcap proceedings. Production values are of high standards. Some scenes that have turned out well in terms of writing, direction and acting are the dance party sequence, Katrina slapping Ranbir after she feels he is aping her stammering only to realize he has the same defect as well, Ranbir masquerading in a girlie top when a girl’s parents come to see him and of course the howlarious climax action.
One of the biggest contributors of the film is its music by Pritam. All the songs are ruling the charts and their positioning in the film and picturisation make them even better. Ranbir showcases what powerhouse of talent he is. He is not only loveable in the funny moments but is excellent in the emotional sequences. Katrina Kaif is in top form too. She balances her funny portions equally well with her emotional ones. Both Ranbir and Katrina make a wonderful fresh jodi as they share a crackling chemistry. Upen Patel fits the role to the T. Pradeep Kharab as Katrina’s suitor is very funny. Darshan Jariwala and Smita Jaykar playing Ranbir’s parents are first-rate. Zakir Hussain and Govind Namdeo are loud but funny. The actors playing Ranbir’s friends are just too good.
After a real long time a good clean hearted romantic comedy has come to the cinema halls which can be enjoyed with the entire family. Go for it guys. Watch it for seeing Santoshi get back in form and Ranbir-Katrina emerge as the new hot jodi of Hindi cinema.
But yes – Pritam’s music was the only respite! And that also just one song – tera hone laga hoon!
Reviews are BOUGHT – there cannot be a perfect example than this one. I would have never seen this movie had I not seen 3+ or even 4+ star ratings in popular website including yours.
Can you please explain me what was new in the story? NOTHING
Comedy was forced. Ranbir was worst to its best. And Katrina – nothing seemed right.
I had people banging the seats saying – OH what a waste!
Can I demand my Rs 2400 for mine and my friend’s ticket from jerks like you all and other so CALLED CRITICS. The same critic who gave Swades a thumbs down are now giving a THUMBS up to this MOVIE?
