The decisions of the jury on the Kerala State Awards 2009 have invited all kinds of reactions.

Academy award winning sound designer Resul Pookutty is disappointed at not winning the Best Sound Designer award. The award in question went to Harikumar for Patham Nilayile Theevandi.

Resul was unable to figure out why his work in Pazhassi Raja had been ignored. He went on to say that the jury was made up of members who didn’t know the difference between sound and music.

He stated that he would accept the decision of the jury but couldn’t understand why they said that the sound design for Pazhassi Raja lacked regional flavour.

Among others who were against the jury’s judgment, were CV Balakrishnan and Madhu Kaithapram. Balakrishnan felt that an outdated filmmaker like Sai Paranjpye as the Chairperson of the Jury was a mistake. Kaithapram felt that the decisions of the jury were senile.
