How did you bag the role for Keshav Pandit?
I had given almost 4 to 5 auditions for the role and then, I was finally selected by Ekta Kapoor. She was looking for a typical north Indian guy with broad shoulders and a matured face but on other hand, she also wanted someone who would look sweet and soft hearted. She must have seen all those characteristics in me and thus here I am, essaying the lead role on the show.
How was your meeting with Ekta Kapoor?
It was pleasant and it is always a pleasure to meet a woman like her, who has carved a niche for herself in this industry. Being a woman, she has achieved so much today and that is really appreciable. She told me every thing about the character and asked me to do full justice to it. As this will be my first role as a protagonist, I have to work very hard and I will too, seeing as Ekta Kapoor has shown faith in me.
Tell us about Keshav Pandit and did his character match with you?
Keshav Pandit is a guy who wants every individual of this country to know about the laws and regulations of the country. Because until and unless one isn’t aware of the laws made by the judiciary, they won’t react against any situation. It generally happens; when a man knows the difference between wrong and right, he fights against it or for it with confidence. So, he is the guy who will be in the system and will help the innocent to fight against injustice. He will show a proper way to the innocent people who are unaware about their rights.
Are you aware about the laws of our judiciary?
Initially, I was completely unaware of the laws but now, slowly and gradually, I am getting the gist of our judiciary. I was just like everyone else, with no knowledge of the judiciary but this show is also helping me to know the laws and regulations of the judiciary. After shooting for an episode, I came to know that even a man without a lawyer can fight for his own case as there are certain rights given to the common man which make him powerful but just because of lack of knowledge about the law, they lag behind. I was just a simple guy who has never messed with anyone.
How was your jail experience onscreen?
It was wonderful. I have experienced that even jail life differs from person to person. For a rich person, it takes 600 rupees to get free from any bad deed and for a poor man, it takes his 6 months in jail. So life differs in a way that a rich man’s 600 rupees is equal to a poor man’s 6 months in jail.
Which character do you feel is more difficult among the shows, Keshav Pandit and Jyoti?
I think playing a blind character is very difficult but I had an experience which changed my mind. Initially, I was very worried about essaying a blind character in Jyoti but once a blind women caught my hand and my eyes were closed with a piece of cloth and we walked a little by a road which was not very good. I was afraid as I wasn’t able to see anything and was panicking but the woman was consoling me by asking me to relax as nothing would happen. After this experience I thought that, when she was blind herself and could still convince me that nothing could go wrong, why should I be worried?
How has your journey with Zee TV and Keshav Pandit been so far?
My journey with Zee TV is fortunately a great deal, may our Kundalis match up very well. Zee Cinestar Ki Khoj was my first innings and Keshav Pandit is my second one. So let’s see how far I go with the new character. I will try my best to do justice to my character.
Any message to your audience!
Yes sure. I will take this opportunity I would like to say that as soon as the court and police comes into their life, people become more panicky and I would like to say to them that don’t panic right away. First, you have to try and understand the law and only then react accordingly. So guys, just be careful in whatever you do.
