Goldie Behl (Sonali Bendre’s husband) has embarked on a very bold adventure, an adventure that could make or break his career. Backed by Eros Entertainment, his supernatural adventure flick named Drona will be releasing on 2nd October. Drona stars Abhishek Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra in the lead with Kay Kay Menon and Jaya Bachchan playing supporting role. The movie is important for both Abhishek Bachchan and Goldie Behl (Director of the movie), both need a big hit to revive their wilting career.

Drona’s story does not offer any surprises, it revolves around a modern day man who takes birth on this earth to save this world from the unearthly enemies that might destroy mankind. The title of the movie is inspired from the Mahabharata. Dronacharya was the teacher who imparted military tactics to the young kauravas and pandavas who later used it against each other. For those who are in a rush, this movie depicts the fight between the good and bad and conveys the message that good prevails over evil.
For those who are more detailed, here’s the story
The movie is about an orphan Aditya played by Abhishek Bachchan. He has never experienced or felt love. The only thing that gives him comfort in the world is a magical blue rose petal that comes wafting into his room. One day, the petal leads him to a beautiful kada (a steel ring generally worn by Sikhs), which he wears around his wrist. He does not realize that this act will unleash forces he never imagined.
Evil sorcerer Riz Raizada (played by Kay Kay Menon) a descendant of the legendary demons, Asuras, has become dangerously desperate in his quest for a precious secret. This secret is the missing link in his grand plan of taking over the universe. To get to the secret, he knows he will have to defeat Drona. And herein lies his problem. He doesn’t know who or where the Drona is!
One day, Aditya and Riz come face to face. Riz sees the kada, and recognises him as Drona. Suddenly, Aditya is running for his life. Just as he is about to be captured, Sonia (played by Priyanka Chopra) comes to his rescue. She reveals Aditya’s real identity to him but he refuses to believe that he is Drona, the saviour of the world. Drona is in real the son of Queen Jayati Devi (played by Jaya Bachchan) of the kingdom of Pratapgarh.
Because the story has nothing new to offer, the creators of the movie are banking on special effects to set the cash boxes rattling at the box office. Eros Entertainment has left no stone unturned in ensuring this movie gets the best possible special effects (at least from Bollywood standards). Drona has roped in action coordinator Tom Delmar choreograph the action sequences, Delmar has previously worked on Guy Ritchie’s ‘Snatch’. Abhishek Bachchan and Priyanka chopra were trained by London based sword master Richard Ryan, who had trained Brad Pitt and Eric Bana for Troy. Sword-based martial arts like Kalaripayat and Chhau will be featured in the film along with the Sikh martial arts Gatka. Eros also enlisted the help of EyeQube Studios which roped in 250 visual effects artists including animators, designers, matte painters and developers, for this movie.
Its a make or break movie for the lead stars and the director. This is the second movie in which Goldie Behl will have directed Abhishek Bachchan, their first movie – ‘Bas itna sa khwab hai‘ bombed miserably, both need a hit to revive their wilting career, they can’t afford to get it wrong this time around. Priyanka Chopra will be hoping to put the debacle of Love story 2050 (another futuristic movie) behind her and expecting this movie brings her back in the reckoning. As for the others, there’s not much too lose, Kay Kay Menon will always find some credible role (because of sheer talent) and jaya bachchan, well she’s would hope that this movie clicks, obviously for her son.
