The film’s about four bummers who knock back Kingfisher beers in Bangkok. They need a place to stay. They take up paying-guest accomodation at a place that’s only for married couples. Shreyas Talpade and Javed Jaffery dress up as women and stay in the house with the guys.

For the few seconds that the movie works, it’s entirely for a couple of seedy gags that Gujarati popular theatre is known for. The film itself looks entirely like a one-act play. But for a few songs they’ve shot in the high-rises and exotic locations in Thailand

The climax of Paying Guest revolves around solving this problem. Sadly, Paritosh chooses to end his film Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron style, using the characters of Mughal-E-Azam in a play. So, mixing with Emperor Akbar, Salim and Anarkali are Batman, Spider-Man, Gabbar Singh and Thakur from Sholay, Osama bin Laden (no kidding), Tulsi from Kyunki…, Phoolan Devi, Shahenshah (Amitabh Bachchan’s). and Krissh. By this time, you want to tear the seats of the newly renovated theatre.
