With box office collections of ‘Singh is Kinng’ (SIK) already reaching monumental proportions, the question on film buffs mind is whether Akshay is the real badshah of bollywood?
Akshay started his hit string with the comic ‘Hera Pheri’ and has since given over 9 hits, his movies raked in over INR 5000 million last year with ‘Namestey London’, ‘Heyy Baby’, ‘Bhool Bhulaiya’ and ‘Welcome’ all topping the charts in terms of box-office collection. Reports suggest that SIK made at a cost averaging INR 500 million is already slated to gross over INR 400 million in the very first week, easing past films like Om-Shanti-Om & Dhoom2 in terms of opening week earnings. The electric response to the movie is global with first day collections in UK and Pakistan breaking local records. SIK has confirmed Akshay’s stature as a crowd puller; critics are even comparing his performance in SIK to that of Amitabh Bacchan in Namak Halal. Producers and corporate production houses are well aware of the brand that ‘Akshay Kumar’ is and truly believe him when he says that ‘his job is to make money for his producers’.
Recently when confronted with the question about how is the real king? Akshay quipped ‘for him Big B is the real badshah of bollywood’ sending out a strong message to ‘King Khan’ that the field for the top spot is wide open
