What can you expect from the Barjatyas, famous for delivering sweetened marriage videos packaged as commercial cinemas, ‘Ek Vivah Aisa Bhi’ is no different, if Rajshri’s are looking to imitate the success of ‘Vivah’, then we think it might just not happen because ‘Ek Vivah Aisa Bhi’ is too clichéd a movie with the whole hum-saath-saath family backdrop, songs and more songs, lot of tear-jerking scenes, a villainous plot and the usual love-story.

The movie revolves around two budding singers, Prem (oh yes, once more) played by Sonu Sood and Chandni played by Esha Koppikar, the singers meet at a singing competition (as if we don’t see enough on Indian Television, read Indian Idol,Sa Re Ga Ma, et al) and fall in love with each other, every thing goes well with their families giving their consent to their marriage. Well, what’s a movie without a twist ,so on the day of engagement, Chandni’s father, played by Alok Nath passes away leaving her responsible to take care of her younger siblings.

Chandni mutually decides with Prem to wait for marriage till she fulfills her family obligations, from hereon the movie tells the tale of how Chandni survives to live another day supporting and fulfilling her commitments while Prem hangs about (hiding his frustration, I guess). After 12 years, the children grow up but surprisingly the main characters still look fresh (now we know who’s buying those anti-ageing products), Prem still hangs about and chandni marries off her siblings. Nothing new, plain old tape running with a new label.

We were not sure about the technicals so we left it to the experts, here’s what the economic times (why would they publish movie reviews?) has to say about the movie

‘The screenplay of the film follows a standard song-dance structure and the first half is practically devoid of a story, which initiates only after the father departs at the interval point. The characterizations are too idealistic to be believable or relatable in today’s flawed materialistic world. The music by Ravindra Jain is too stodgy to connect with, in contemporary times. The performances fall within the set Barjatya parameters’
