Anurag Kashyap’s modern day take on Sarat Chandra’s epic novel Devdaas managed a decent collection at the box office. Infact word-of-mouth publicity saw its collection soar over the weekend in multiplexes across many cities.
The first three days’ net collections for Dev.D was approximately Rs 5.50 crore. Trade sources are forecasting around Rs 8 crore net collections for the first week, which is definitely good for a medium-budgeted film. The opening weekend collections in major multiplexes across the country were – Cinemax 55-60%, PVR 60-65%, Fame 60-70%, Fun Cinemas 60% and BIG Cinemas 55-60%.
The other two releases this chal chala chal and Mere Khawabon Mein Jo Aaye vanished into the thin air with depressing returns in the first week.
