dev-dDev d – another remake of Devdas?? Well, not as per the director of this romantic drama which is based on the novel by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s classic novel Devdas. Anurag Kashyap, the director of the movie suggests that Dev d is a modern take on the historic novel.

Anurag Kashyap did not want to do another remake of any the 9 previous films versions titled Devdas. His version was created as a modern take on the 1917 original classic novel by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay.Kashyap decided he wanted to make his own version of Devdas to reflect the original novel but through 2008 mores, with the lead character of Devdas as a debauching, hypocritcal sensualist, who is self destructive without knowing he is destroying himself

The plot of Dev d revolves around Dev (Abhay Deol) who is the son of a zamindar (tax collector). He and Paro (Mahi Gill) are childhood sweethearts. Differences in status and caste prevent their marriage. Dev is sent to Delhi while Paro is married off to a rich but aged widower. In Calcutta Devdas meets the prostitute Chanda (Kalki) but remorse drives him to excesse.

Will Dev d be as big its predecessor, Devdas by Sanjay Leela Bhansali starring the enigmatic King Khan, well, that only time will tell.. watch this space for more
