It’s almost time for ‘Happy New Year’ and our Bollywood stars are planning to whoop it up in different ways.. But with all New Year’s Eve celebrity performances called off after the Mumbai terror attacks, the celebrations will be private rather than public.
Salman Khan left for Goa to celebrate his birthday last Saturday and he is expected to be back in Mumbai only in the first week of January. “Salman, brother Sohail, sister Alvira and her husband Atul Agnihotri will be together on New Year’s Eve,” a source says. “They are also expected to be joined by Arbaaz Khan since [his wife] Malaika will perform in Singapore”. Salman’s girl Katrina Kaif is in London, and is to join the gang in the new year.
‘The Rock On!!’ team, which includes friends and partners Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, Abhishek Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Luke Kenny, has left for Dubai. All the guys and their wives will be together to celebrate the success of the film. “We would’ve loved to be in Goa,” says Rampal. “It’s just our kind of place, but after the terror attacks, Goa is not the same place anymore. The authorities are stricter than ever before. Hope things improve by next year and Goa soon rocks like always.”
Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor have not let Saif’s recent health scare dampen the party spirit. The lovebirds are going to the French Alps. “Finally, we will be flying off to France. I am looking forward to spending so much time with Kareena. She had been really hassled because of my sudden illness. She didn’t leave me for a minute,” says Saif via SMS.
Aishwarya and Abhishek Bachchan are keeping it low, ostensibly because of the Mumbai attacks. Priyanka Chopra, too, will spend a quiet New Year’s Eve with her family at her newly done-up house. Kajol and Ajay Devgan, with daughter Nysa, will usher in 2009 at their Karjat farmhouse.
And if we had missed some of the bollywood personality, here are some of them celebrating on their own style:
Priyanka Chopra: I’m shooting till the Dec 30. Then I have one day to spend with my family. After the New Year, I am off to Bangkok to shoot a commercial for a beauty soap. My wish? That my father remains well and my films do well!
Suniel Shetty: I’m off to spend the year-end with my family in our Khandala home, and that includes my parents, of course. I’d want my family to be happy and complete in 2008. On the professional front, I want my production company Popcorn Entertainment to march ahead.
Bipasha Basu: I’m working on New Year’s Eve. I’ll be performing at the Marriott. Then I’m heading to Kenya for a week’s holiday. I hope in 2009 I’ve loads of fun and I do great work. I’d like more travel for myself and less violence for the world.
Esha Deol: On the 31st I’m with my old school friends. In 2009, I want a role that will challenge me as an actress. Waiting with fingers crossed. I’ve kept my dates free. For the rest of world, I pray for peace.
Arbaaz Khan: This year for the New Year’s I’ll be at our family farmhouse in Panvel with my parents and brothers. Earlier, during the year-end we’d head to Goa or Dubai. In 2009 I want to quit smoking. My son is growing up and I don’t want him to feel it’s okay to smoke because daddy’s doing it.
