Bollywood box office drought for 2009 finally seems to be over. Kabir Khan’s New York is doing incredible business across the country both in multiplexes and single cinema theaters. According to Buzz18,first show occupancy was in the range of 70 per cent it went up to 90-100 per cent during the evening shows
The film has been budgeted at Rs 20 crore with over Rs 5 crore spent on print and publicity. Trade pundits are already speculating the film to do an overall net business of Rs 50 crore. Trade Analyst Amar Solanki feels “New York’s successful opening has not only benefited the YRF banner but also John, Katrina and Neil. Katrina has often been termed as a glam doll. But she has proven everyone wrong with this one and showed that given a good role she can do wonders. New York is Neil’s first successful film at the box office and his work has been appreciated as well. But most importantly the film is a bigger relief for John. It is not only a back to back hit for John after Dostana but also exploits his acting potential to the maximum to good effect”.
Tulip Joshi starrer Runway had a run for its money as it recorded negligible collection at the box office.
