Billoo Barber – an intriguing name that catches your imagination the moment you hear it, the title of the upcoming priyadarshan directed movie sure does create quite a few buzz when someone talks about it. Billoo Barber is a comedy based on friendship between two individuals played by Shahrukh Khan and Irrfan Khan, it’s loosely based on the relationship between Krishna and Sudama with Irrfan Khan executing the role of Sudama, the story revolves around the Irrfan Khan who plays a barber in the movie, his wife, played by Lara Dutta and their two kids. Shahrukh Khan is producing this movie and this movie is being distributed by his company ‘Red Chillies Entertainment’.
Given priyadarshan’s background it’s a no-brainer that Billoo Barber is a remake of the malyalam film ‘Kadha Parayumbol’, recently a tamil version of the same movie titled ‘kuselan’ was released starring Rajnikanth, the tamil version however failed at the box office, eeeks, not sure Shah rukh would have wanted to hear that. Anyways, billoo barber has grabbed quite a few headlines with its ever changing star-cast.
Priyadarshan signed on actors Irrfan Khan, Akshay Kumar and Tabu to play the lead roles in Billoo Barber, however things started getting jittery from thereon, Akshay Kumar & Tabu opted out of the project, priyadarshan then offered their roles to Shahrukh Khan and Amisha Patel respectively. It turned out that Amisha Patel too quit from her role citing inconsequential role. Sometime early 2008, the director announced that he had signed on Lara Dutta to play the role of the Irrfan’s wife. Shahrukh has also managed to rope in actresses Kareena Kapoor and Deepika Padukone who are doing a cameo in this movie and should provide the required weight in terms of star cast.
Of late, we have seen priyadarshan’s execellent directoral skills turn into mediocrity with commercial success weighing heavily on the directors mind. One really is surprised to see the deteriorating quality of movies coming out of his stable, wish Billoo Barber sets that to rest and comes out as snazzy and spectacular as its name.
What a fun post. Thanks for all the work you’ve done on this post
I must see this movie.
And I too always look forward to SRK, no matter what he’s up to!
