I was very excited when some of the big corporate opened grocery sections in their mall, I thought it would be so convenient to get everything under one roof however that excitement was short lived.
The so called FRESH vegetables in the malls aren’t as fresh as they so screamingly suggest for a number of reasons, primarily for two reasons a) they aren’t always locally sourced as these malls buy in bulk and not all the stuff can be sought locally and b) they have additional preservatives to give them longer shelf lives. But nutrient factors aside, I feel that malls lack the hustle-bustle of the local bhaaji bazaar that we have all grown up with, the ornamental display of fresh vegetables, the heavy bargains that you can draw sometimes (if you are lucky or buy in bulk) and the local aroma that’s so missing in the controlled environment of the mall. Personally I would still love to go down the market with my Jhola (bag) and buy fresh tarkari (vegetables). What would you prefer?
I like malls as they have vegetables kept in clean manner and also we get pealed and cut vegetables also
