Anand Jon Alexander, celebrated fashion designer of Indian origin who is currently behind bars was found guilty by Beverly hills police. Jon was arrested in March 2007 in Beverly Hills on rape and related charges based on the allegations of numerous aspiring models, including committing a lewd act on a child. Later the prosecutor added 15 additional felony counts as the investigation expanded.

He was considered as an up-and-coming designer in the fashion world, Alexander launched his fashion line in 1999 after graduating from the Parsons School of Design in New York. He has dressed celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Michelle Rodriguez and Mary J. Blige, Janet Jackson, Oprah Winfrey etc.

His sister, Sanjana Jon (Marketing Director for his company) and his mother Shashi (founder/CEO of My Fair Lady Group, Inc) claim that their brother / son is innocent and that he has been victimized at the time when the biggest event of his life “L.A. Fashion week” was round the corner. They came to India on many frequent visits and pleaded the Indian Government and also many Indians to save their brother/son. The Indian government has not yet decided to intervene in this case.

This is because, India would have never witnessed a case wherein a rapist is given some stern punishments as soon as possible. In India, rapists are still roaming around freely and their case though it is filed in Indian courts are never seen by the judges. or if luckily, the case comes for hearing, the girl would have died 5 years ago.

May be Anand Jon is not guilty and his fellow goers are targeting his success but the point is: Outside India, if a person is guilty or not, the punishments and actions against that person is taken very quickly and strictly and they see to it that justice is prevailed at any cost. And it doesn’t matter if he is a very famous celebrity. Justice is one for every human being regardless of fame and money. But this is seriously not the case in India. If the rapist or the murderer is minister’s son, or a celebratly the value of a life is balanced with money. If the rapist or the murderer pays money in the name of compensation and fine, he is set free.

In Anand Jon’s case, he is scheduled to be sentenced on January 13, 2009. And he will be eligible for parole after 67 years.
