Soumaya Viswanathan, TV producer with English News Channel Headlines Today was murdered on September 30 and police are yet to find any clue to the mysterious murder. Police did arrest one Mr. Mudit Jain, son of Delhi Businessman Dinesh Jain, whose rear-view mirror’s glass pieces were found on the spot where Soumaya was murdered. However on investigation it was found that Mudit passed that place, Vasant Kunj, 7 hours before the murder.
The CCTV footage also showed the broken rear-view mirror and the timing in the CCTV also matched the statement given by Mudit, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H G S Dhaliwal said.
Soumaya was shot on her head and that is said to have killed her. She was returning home after covering bomb blast news material at 3 AM in the morning. Initially, police thought it was a case of accident but later doctors conformed that she suffered a bullet injury on her head. Police suspect that the victim was shot from close range from a vehicle which was plying parallel to Soumya’s car, which was found rammed into the divider of the road.
Some eye witnesses have surfaced but apart from giving a very vague picture no further details were found from them. With the only suspect being given a clean chit, everyone is waiting to know what and how did this murder happen.
Delhi still remains quite unsafe for the women though there has been marginal drop in crime rate against women when compared with the reports last year. However, when Delhi’s chief minister Sheila Dixit seems quite uncertain with Delhi’s Safety (especially against women – read her comments), one has to be very careful and take enough precautions to protect himself/herself! What say?

I am shocked to learn that the cops could not trace the murder weapon or find anything for more than a month and a half. What happened to our forensics! Assuming that the weapon is disposed off (under their noses), you let the most critical witness (or probably more than that) with an outright unreliable alibi go scot free! Its unfortunate that we have a bunch of guys in Indian police who are doing such a shoddy job on taxpayer’s money! We have lost a young journalist with immense potential, can we expect to see some action on getting the criminal behind the bars. It will restore some faith in our law enforcement agencies.
There is something fishy about the police version; finding glass pieces from the same spot whee soumy was found dead inside the car , that too broken on the same fatal day, again the fellow has left to london the same day morning …….Police and some news papers qustioning the IQ of Delhiites. I strongly feel police trying to cover up things for saving someone
Its deep irony that in our country lawbreakers get away easily &
victim family has to run from pillar to post to get justice.. Our Judicial system need to be overhauled for better intrest or else such news going to make headlines frequently.
