john_gangulyJohn Buchanan , the coach for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), said on March 25th in Kolkata that the team is all set to have four captains.

We got a report on Tuesday that there has been a rift between the coach and the captain and that Buchanan wanted Dada to be axed.

“Sourav and I had a long discussion yesterday and decided that there need not necessarily be a fixed captain. Often a captain can be out in the middle, or may be dismissed or be off the field…in a 20-20 format we cannot waste time and so we will use the experience of all the other players we have in the team,” Buchanan told reporters in Kolkata. “We have not nominated a captain and it is still open,” he added.

Reacting to KKR’s ‘four captain’ formula, a dejected Sourav Ganguly said, “It is new and I think we will have to access it. John has all the right to make the decision, he is the coach of the team…He has been pretty open about his views and we will stick to it. I have nothing to say about this.”

Sources earlier said a compromise formula had been worked out between the two, according to the which, sources said, Sourav Ganguly was continue to remain the team captain, but there are also plans to develop leaders within the team to develop better co-ordination among the team.

Brendon McCullum, Chris Gayle, and Brad Hodge are the three players expected to assist Sourav Ganguly in his role as a captain.

The Kolkata Knight Riders owner Shah Rukh Khan has played the peacemaker and the actor minced no words while backing the former Indian captain. SRK went on record to state that the Kolkata IPL team respects Ganguly’s genius and experience. He said, “I won’t even comment on such nonsense piece of news. Dada and me are too self-respecting to cater to all the write-ups. You guys should support your team and Dada and make sure the team shines one day. We, at KKR, respect Dada’s genius.”

Sourav Ganguly and John Buchanan are expected to address the media at the Eden Gardens later today.
