Mumbai Court says No to Abortion
4Aug2008 Filed under: Latest News Author: mickyThe Bombay High Court rejected a plea by a Mumbai couple, stockbroker Haresh Mehta and his wife Niketa, who sought to abort their 25-week unborn child because it had a congenital heart defect. The case poses a direct challenge to the 37 year old abortion law since Niketa is now 25 weeks pregnant – well beyond the permissible limit for abortion in India.
Well I think there are two sides to the whole episode. One side I think we should have faith in The Almighty & expect the miracle and let’s wait till the child is born. On other, we should not forget trauma parents might have to go through if it does not work out correctly. And even if the child survives, but with complication, it would mean problems for the parents throughout their life. While I strongly condemn abortion, I think Court should have considered this as a special case and granted permission for abortion.

Abortion is the sole decision by the parents and not by any court or govt. This should be allowed, will govt take responsibility?
I think the court is not understanding that’s its not about abortion, its about bringing a complicated life and making it more complicated for others, specially the parents. Now the mother hasn’t seen the child, she can still bear the loss. How can she bear the loss if the child is born with complication and she will have to wait for his/her death every day.
Please allow this special case. That’s my opinion.
