Five more players were bought by different teams in the third round of the auction. 12 out of the 17 allotted slots are filled till now.
In this round,
1. Rajasthan Royals bagged South African T20 specialist and fast bowler Tyron Henderson for $650,000.
2. Bangalore Royal Challengers bought two kiwi players, viz. batsman Jesse Ryder for $160,000 and bowling all-rounder Kyle Mills for $150,000 (base price).
3. Chennai Super Kings got Sri Lankan all-rounder Thilan Thushara for $140,000.
4. English all-rounder Ravi Bopara went to Kings’ XI Punjab for $450,000.
Five more players got no takers in this round. They are: Australian Phil Jaques, England’s Luke Wright, South African Ashley Prince and Andre Nel and Sri Lankan fast bowler Nuwan Kulasekara.
5. In the second phase of the auction, Deccan Chargers bought West Indies fast bowler Fidel Edwards on his base price of $150,000.
6. Delhi Daredevils bagged both middle-order English batsmen Owais Shah and Paul Collinwood for $275,000 each.
Three players did not get any takers in the second round. They are Australian wicket-keeper batsman Brad Haddin, pacer Stuart Clark and Sri Lankan batsman Chamara Kapugedera.
7. Second auction of the Indian Premier League started in Goa on Friday. Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait became the first player to be bought in this years’ auction by Rajasthan Royals for $375,000
8. Then the bid started for the top players of this summers’ auction, with Mumbai Indians bagging South African batsman JP Duminy for $950,000
9. The prize catch of flamboyant batsman Kevin Pietersen was $1.55 million and won by Vijay Mallya’s Bangalore Royal Challengers.
10. His compatriot all-rounder Andrew Flintoff was bought for the same amount by Chennai Super Kings for $1.55 m.
12. The IPL runner up of 2008 had bagged India skipper MS Dhoni for record price of $ 1.5 m.
Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Flintoff has surpassed Dhoni as the most expensive player in the cash-rich Indian Premier League. So far three rounds of IPL bid has taken place in which – 12 players have been sold while there were no takers of 8 players.
