This has happened in the past. Many people have done this. You make someone famous, give them the name, the fame and then comes the misuse. Probably that’s what Arundhati Roy, Indian novelist, writer and activist did when she remarked “India needs Azadi from Kashmir as much as Kashmir needs Azadi from India“. As a true Indian I condemn those words and her thoughts. From whom do you want Kashmir to be freed from? From the people of India, who have every inch of Kashmir in their hearts and cry whenever there is a problem in Kashmir. Today Kashmir is going through hell and I condemn bad politics for this. At this time, when activist like you should be asking for peace but you went straight ahead and made a statement that has hurt millions of Indians. Freedom of Speech does not allow you to say whatever you want (especially when it hurts the sentiments of the people of India) and there is a line you should never cross.
Even I want Azadi, but from bad politics, corruptions, terror attacks, terrorists. We need to fight that now. The problem of the Kashmiri people is as bad as every citizen in India. We have to go through hell everyday, bomb blasts everyday, corruption at every stage, rising price, there are issues every day. Yes, Kashmir issue has been dragged, people have suffered and we will try and do everything through our blog. Anyways, back to Arundhati Roy’s comment, we again condemn such statements and hope she bears some kind of social responsibilities in India before making such speeches. What if her statement sparks protests all over India? And we all know how people can play politics with this statement of yours and create big ISSUE!
We again request the Indian Government to please pledge that they will resolve the Kashmir issue by ensuring fair dialogues between all the parties concerned and come to some conclusion which is goes for the RIGHTS of Kashmiri people. However, let this message go loud and clear… Kashmir will be integral part of India and not a single millimeter of land will given to anyone. Hope this message is echoed across the border as well!
jai ho arundhati roy you are the true literaturer of the india
Well written Chakraborty, in the name of minority everyone is playing politics. No one cries or makes a hue when a hindu is in pain, only when something is done to Muslim all come to take the limelight.
SIMI was involved in so many blasts and politicans like Laloo and Mulayum made a statement that they have no issues with SIMI. And as soon as Malegaon Blast had some Hindu Organisations, these were the people who came forward and said Hindu Fundamentalist should be banned. What a DOUBLE STANDARD. We as Hindu arent minority, but always treated as MINORITY by this SELFISH Politicans. I do not support any blast, but how can these politicans label HINDU FUNDAMENTALIST to be BANNED. If that is the case, all Muslim Madrasas should be banned as they teach JIHAD and justify militants attack
Zor se bol, what are u doing? Can U write abt the double standards by Indian Politicans?
Being an Indian and a Bengali I am ashamed of her.
India needs freedom from Arundhuti as much as she needs it from India.
I can not imagine to what extent one can become greedy that one forgets own nation.
It is India that really did not take strict action against her.
If it was Bangladesh then she would have been prosecuted severely.
Where was Arundhati when this Kashmiris thrown out Pandits from kashmir?
Where did her emotions rest when Kashmiris shouted anti national slogan?
At one hand she supports communal countries like Palestine, Pak, Iraq and at other hand she calls India as communal.
She even supports Kashmiris who demand separate country on the basis of religion.
It is really confusing is she is communal or the opposite.
But one thing is clear–She might oppose India if it wins medal in Olympics.
Very well written Sahil. We will ask Jaggy to reply to that. Thanks

I respect what ever you have written but you being as an honest person, tell me do you really know the history of Jammu and Kashmir. It was a seperate and was an autonomous princely state adjacent to the territories of British India ruled by a Maharaja. After the departure of the British in 1947 the state was split between Pakistan and India as war erupted between the neighbours. India claimed that they had a treaty of accession signed by that times Maharaja to stay with India. I want to know who Maharaja was to decide the fate of people of J&K. If that treaty which India claims was original, still why the people of J&K where not allowed to decide their fate?
In 1947 the Indian Independence Act was passed, this meant that British India would become two independent states – Pakistan and India. Furthermore each of the princely states would be free to join India or Pakistan – or remain independent. Most of the princely states acceded to either of the two nations.
However the ruler of Kashmir wanted to remain independent, neither joining Pakistan or India, this lead to war between the two neighbouring countries in which Kashmir became divided between them.[10] Each considering that the former princely state belongs to them in its entirety and has lead to several wars. The Kashmir conflict between the two nuclear neighbours remains one of the most intractable and longest running disputes on the United Nations Security Council’s agenda.
Let the people of Jammu and Kashmir only decide their future. This was a princely state and should be like that only. People of J&K are fighting for that. They have no concerns with Pakistan and India.
I hope you got the message very loud and clear. These are the facts of J&K which every human being of earth should know and remember.
