With the BCCI’s decision to scrap the Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab IPL teams, Preity Zinta and Shilpa Shetty have both been flung into a professional chasm.
Factually, Preity’s last release was the Salman Khan starrer “Heroes” in 2008. After that, she’s only been spotted in two guest appearances in “Main Aur Mrs Khanna” and “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi”. Even her upcoming movie with Shiney Ahuja “Har Pal” has been awaiting release for a while. The case is almost the same for Shilpa Shetty, who hasn’t had a release since ” Life In A… Metro” in 2007. Though both have upcoming releases in 2010, these are movies that were shot in 2007!
Now, because of the sabbatical, it may get a bit difficult for the actresses to get back to the screen. Says trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
In such a situation, Shilpa seems well prepared. Fresh from her British “Celebrity Big Brother” win in 2007, Shilpa got married to UK-based businessman Raj Kundra, and got into a variety of businesses including a readymade meal chain in the UK, a spa chain and yoga DVDs. She even launched a perfume in her name. So, even if she loses her place in the IPL tournament, she could still make her millions. As for Preity, it’s time for heading to B-wood.
But, adman Prahlad Kakar thinks that Preity still has a long way to go in tinseltown. He says, “Fact is, Shilpa wasn’t getting roles during this time. If she would’ve got a movie, she would’ve done it. As far as Preity is concerned, she did put herself out there completely to make sure her team won. I mean, she worked really, really hard for the team. I hope she gets her money back from this. She has invested so heavily in her team. Also, as far as Bollywood is concerned, Preity is still viable. She may not be a spring chicken, but with the kind of roles that are being written these days, she’ll be good for more serious and mature roles for similar scripts. She still has a career here.” We hope so too!
