Just days after brutal incident of a medical student death in Himachal comes another shocking news relating to ragging. A 20-year old Agricultural Engineering Student from Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh attempted suicide after being ragged by her seniors. Thankfully, she was saved in time and did not meet the unfortunate fate like that of “Aman”, who was killed as a result of brutal ragging.
Andhra Girl was made to dance nude in front of her senior students. The helpless girl could not bear the shame and wanted to kill herself by consuming pesticides. She was rushed to the hospital where she regained conscious.
Police confirms having registered the case of ragging and investigations are on.
Even though ragging is banned in most of the colleges in India, the behind the scenes ragging continues and many do not come in the limelight due to fear of actions against them by their seniors. There are strict laws on ragging, but seems like this law like many other laws in India is NOT STRICTLY IMPLEMENTED and there seems to be no fear.
Do you think its high time Indian Law Authorities and College Authorities should enforce Anti-Ragging Laws with more strict policies? Zor se Bol here!
ragging is already banned. There is nothing in the Constitution of our country which permits this pernicious practice. Instead of press and web sites coming together to campaign against it and demand punishment for those who indulge in it I find they sometimes start praising it as something cool and desirable and debating whether or not it should be made legal. If it is to be allowed and made legal then correspondingly the person who is ragged should have a legal right to kill, the person who is ragging, to protect his/her honour.
