U.S. director, Quentin Tarantino popular for his maverick cinema will be leading the jury at this year’s Venice Film Festival.
He will head the panel of judges who will award, The Golden Lion, festival’s main prize. This year the festival will be held at The Lido, from first to eleventh September.
Tarantino will be succeeding director Ang Lee, who headed the jury last year that awarded the Golden Lion to Israeli film Lebanon.
His films have been famous for their non linear narrative and violence shown aesthetically. In 1992, his Reservoir Dogs hit the Sundance Film festival and became an instant hit. His next film, Pulp Fiction popular for its rich, eclectic dialogue, ironic mix of humour and violence, and host of cinematic allusions and pop culture references earned him an Oscar for best original screenplay along with co-screenplay writer Roger Avary.
He has won various awards at Academy Award, Golden Globe, BAFTA and Palme d’Or awards and has been nominated for Emmy and Grammy Awards as well. His latest film, Inglorious Basterds was nominated for eight Oscars winning one for best supporting actor. He was named the 12th-greatest director of all time by Total Film in 2007.
His other films include Reservoir Dogs , Four Rooms , Jackie Brown , Kill Bill volume 1 and 2 and Death Proof .
