Priyanka Chopra is all set to host a live telethon show The Greenathon to be aired on NDTV Profit on March 6 and 7.
The 24 hour show educates viewers about global warming and appeals for donations that are used to provide solar power in villages. “It raised close to two and a half crore last year,” the company said, “This year the money will be donated to Nobel Prize winner RK Pachauri’s The Energy and Resources Institute that helps in electrifying villages.”
Priyanka Chopra has also shot a video for this which has some animated scenes of nature. Last year, the show was hosted by Preity Zinta and had performances by Madhuri Dixit, Bipasha Basu, Milind Soman and Arshad Warsi.
Preity had said about the show, “Many of us enjoy everything but some people still don’t have electricity. We all are somehow misusing our mother nature. Today we are so developed in science and technology but we can’t breathe. Every day brings some new disease because of pollution. So it’s high time all of us take a step forward and save the earth.”
Speaking about the campaign, NDTV’s Prannoy Roy said, “We believe environment abuse and resulting climate change is the single biggest danger we face today. We hope people and corporates across the country will join hands with us and pledge to make a visible change in their lifestyles towards a greener tomorrow.”
