They’ve just watched item girl-turned-reality TV star-turned coy bride-to-be Rakhi Sawant choose NRI businessman Elesh Parujanwala on Rakhi Ka Swayamvar (NDTV Imagine). Now viewers can prepare themselves to see TV’s latest pair on the small screen again — very soon. According to Imagine CEO Sameer Nair, Rakhi and Elesh will be one of the couples who will participate in a brand new reality show that the channel is planning.

“That will be soon after Rakhi and Elesh return from Toronto where they are going to attend Elesh’s sister’s wedding,” said Nair, who was present at Mumbai’s Leela hotel where the final two-and-a-half hour episode was shot behind closed doors, amidst much secrecy. Even we didn’t know who she would choose or what would happen,” Nair said.

Having tasted blood with the success of the show, the channel now hopes to host more such swayamvars. Rumour has it that the next person to go spouse-hunting on TV will be the late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan’s son, Rahul, who has already been a part of the reality show, Bigg Boss.

“We hadn’t really thought about it, but because of the rumours, now Rahul’s name has cropped up in our mind,” said Nair. On her part, Sawant is reconciled to being engaged, not married. “I was ready to get married there and then,” she said in a phone interview. “But Elesh wanted time to establish himself in Mumbai — to get a house and car. I can’t force myself on him, force toh ladke ko karna chahiye. So for now, we will live separately. No point rushing into things and then getting divorced six months later.”

But what she is happiest about is how well the final episode did. “TRPs bahut achche the, na?” she asks.
